Compact, lightweight, and inexpensive, this push-button machine uses packaged coffee pods (50 included) to make espresso brewing easy. It has a steam nozzle with a milk-frothing attachment to create espresso drinks like cafĂ© lattĂ© and cappuccino. Making one espresso after another is simple: Fill the 50-ounce, transparent, plastic water tank (it detaches for easy filling), press the on/off button, flip the temperature switch to brewing, and wait until a ready light on the front turns green. Then flip the function switch on the side to brewing and insert a coffee pod into a slot in the machine’s top. In moments espresso flows into a cup placed beneath the espresso spout. When brewing is complete, the pod automatically drops into a removable used-pod container. For frothing milk, the temperature switch is set on steam/froth, and when the ready light turns green the function switch is also set on steam/froth. The steam nozzle with frother attached then goes into a pitcher (not included) of cold milk.

Convenience features include a removable overflow tray covered by a cup-rest grill; a red tab inside the overflow tray that rises to indicate the tray needs emptying; a water-filter holder inside the water tank that accommodates cylinder-type filters (not included); and a cup-warming section on the machine’s top. Made in Switzerland, the 1,050-watt machine is clad in bright black plastic and measures 11 inches wide, 11-1/2 inches high, and 11 inches deep. A step-by-step instruction video comes with the machine, and the instruction booklet includes definitions of espresso terms and provides espresso-based drink recipes. The machine carries a one-year warranty against defects. –Fred Brack
