Black & Decker, long known as a maker of quality tools, brings that same dependability to the kitchen in its line of countertop appliances, such as the ODC425 10-cup Spacemaker thermal carafe coffeemaker. Constructed of sturdy white plastic with stainless steel carafe and accents, the Spacemaker gets its name from its horizontal design and under-cabinet mounting ability. The accompanying mounting hardware includes spacers of various widths to accommodate different styles of cabinet, whether the doors are flush or overhanging. This feature is great for small kitchens or kitchens with little available counter space; in addition, it’s very useful for RVs, camping trailers, or pleasure-boat galleys, where it helps to have counter appliances bolted down.

In addition to its space-saving feature, the Black & Decker ODC425 also sports a few other handy features. A stainless steel, thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for up to four hours; it has a white plastic handle and brew-through lid which locks to become airtight. There’s programmable timer and clock for setting up an automatic brew time, with a display and five-button control panel on the front of the coffeemaker. And there are two features that allow caffeine cravers to have their first cup of coffee before the brewing’s done. Sneak-A-Cup interrupts brewing while a cup is poured; Tap-A-Cup, an actual tap built into the bottom of the carafe handle, draws off a cup without interrupting the brew cycle at all.

The removable brew basket is dishwasher safe (top rack). Hand wash carafe in hot water with a soft sponge and mild detergent; do not use abrasive cleansers or scrubbers on carafe. Rinse the brew basket and carafe thoroughly to ensure purity of coffee flavor. Wipe down the coffeemaker with a warm, damp cloth and dry completely; coffeemaker is not immersible. The carafe measures 10 by 7 by 6-1/2 inches and has a 10-cup (50-fluid-ounce) capacity. (An 10-cup coffeemaker produces 10 5-ounce cups.) The coffeemaker measures 11 by 14 by 12 inches. The Black & Decker ODC425 uses large flat-bottom paper coffee filters (not included).
